NEW CHILDREN SAFE EXCHANGE ZONE IN FRONT OF WASHINGTON CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office now has a secure place where parents with shared custody can pick up or drop off their children.

Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak at the new safe exchange zone in front of the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The area is at the corner of the parking lot of the Sheriff’s Office, located at 1206 Independence Road in Brenham.  The zone is under constant video surveillance, and is well-lit.

Sheriff Otto Hanak said the zone has been active for about three weeks now, and has already received positive comments from some members of the community.

Hanak said the purpose of having the zone is to provide comfort for parents with shared custody, and a safe place to exchange their children.

Hanak encourages those who are exchanging children to use these spaces whenever they feel the need.

  1. This is an absolutely fabulous idea and I am so full of admiration for Sheriff Hanak for seeing this thru to the end. I hope that this will make things easier and safer for all involved, the families and the officers who were routinely called to ‘supervise’ visit exchanges. Kudos to those who had the foresight to make this a reality.
