NEW MOVIE WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY BRENHAM NATIVE

A movie written and directed by a Brenham native is set to be released this week.  Nathan Von Minden and his wife Meleice, both of whom graduated from Brenham High School in 2001, produced “The Challenger Disaster”.  The movie is about the engineers that tried to stop the launch of the space shuttle Challenger in 1986.  The movie features several stars including Dean Cain from the Lois and Clark TV series, Glenn Morshower from the TV show 24, and Football legend, Les Miles.

Working with a tight budget, Von Minden drew on friends and family to help with the movie. Von Minden recruited his dad, Burney Von Minden of Brenham, to act in the movie.

The Challenger Space Shuttle broke up 73 seconds after launch on January 28th, 1986 due to the failure of the o-rings on its solid rocket booster. Von Minden say he became intrigued by the story during his Aeronautical Engineering studies at Embry-Riddle University.  He would spend 8 years researching the disaster and the investigations into it.

The movie premieres tonight (Tuesday) at the Regal Grand Parkway 22 Theater in Houston.   It opens Friday in ten theaters across the country.  It also becomes available that same day for rental or purchase through iTunes, Amazon, or other video on demand outlets.
