NO. 17 BUCCANEERS TAKE DOWN TRINIDAD STATE 3-0, TO OPEN CLARENDON CLASSIC

Giulia Hortelan leads Blinn with 15 digs

CLARENDON, Texas — No. 17 Blinn College volleyball (16-1) took down Trinidad State Junior College, 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-8), to open the Clarendon Classic on Friday.
“I am really proud of how the girls fought in set one and how good we played in sets two and three,” said Terry Gamble, Blinn head coach. “We started out not playing our best, but then we played some of the best volleyball of the season.”
Defense ended the match strong as Giulia Hortelan recorded 15 digs and Tatum Smidovec tallied 11. Taylor Henderson led Blinn with three blocks.
On the offensive side, Essence Clerkley led the Buccaneers with 11 kills, while Hortelan followed with 10 and Paige Havel with nine. Jenni Liu recorded 36 assists in the match.
Blinn played its closest game against Trinidad State in the first set, only winning by two-points (25-23). However, the Buccaneers began to take off in the second set for a 25-16 win. In the third set, Blinn played its best offense and defense of the match to walk away with a 25-8 victory for the win.
Next, the Buccaneers will continue to compete in the tournament on Saturday, Sept. 14, against Clarendon College at 10 a.m. and Richland College at 3 p.m.
