No. 21 Blinn uses balanced scoring to top San Jacinto for 10th straight win, 74-63

Four Buccaneers score in double figures against San Jacinto

HOUSTON, Texas – No. 21 Blinn College women’s basketball used its balanced scoring to jump out early and was able to hold that lead to beat San Jacinto College-North 74-63 Saturday afternoon in Houston.

The Buccaneers are proving themselves as a team that is hard to beat with 10 consecutive victories to improve to 21-6 overall and 13-4 in Region XIV play. Blinn now has the longest winning streak in the conference after Trinity Valley Community College lost earlier in the day.

Ebony Parker was able to hit four 3-pointers to lead Blinn with 20 points while Ekiya Gray went 7 of 10 from the free throw line to finish with 19 points. Penina Faumui added 12 points and Jeliah Preston chipped in with 10 points.

Eight different players scored for Blinn in the opening quarter as the Buccaneers used their balance to jump out to a 24-17 lead after one. San Jacinto chipped away slightly in the second quarter but Blinn still held a 41-37 lead at the half.

“We had a really good quarter offensively in the first but struggled defensively,” said Blinn coach Jeff Jenkins. “Abigail Whyte and Denisha Ford both did a good job defensively on their top scorer.”

Blinn padded its lead in the third quarter to take a 59-52 lead into the fourth quarter as the Buccaneers were able to outscore San Jacinto 15-9 in the final period to take home the 11-point victory.

Blinn’s last conference loss came at the hands of San Jacinto in a 78-61 loss on Dec. 9 as the Buccaneers were able to redeem themselves after beating San Jacinto in Houston.

Blinn will be back home on Saturday, Feb. 20 against Angelina College at 2 p.m.
