OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING IN AUSTIN COUNTY

  

An Officer involved shooting apparently occurred in rural Austin County Monday, but so far, officials are declining to release information about it.  Reportedly, an officer from the Prairie View A&M University Police Department fired on and struck an unknown individual.  It is unknown at this point why the officer was in Austin County.  The Austin County Sheriff’s Office declined to release any information about the shooting, referring all questions be directed to Prairie View University or the Texas Rangers, who have launched an investigation.  Prairie View A&M released a statement this afternoon saying they are cooperating fully with investigation and will not jeopardize it by releasing information about the shooting.  The Texas Rangers will only say that they are looking into the matter.
