O’ROURKE CAMPAIGN “NEVER ASKED FLAG REMOVAL” IN NAVASOTA

Officials with the U.S. Senate campaign of Congressman Beto O'Rourke say they never requested to have the American flag removed from a the Navasota VFW post during a recent town hall meeting.

Congressman Beto O'Rourke

The El Paso Democrat, who is challenging Ted Cruz for the U.S. Senate seat, was at VFW Post No. 4006 in Navasota on Aug. 25 for a campaign stop.

Post Commander Carl Dry claims there were two requests made by the campaign to remove the flag, which he denied.

Dry claims two people approached him before the event, requesting the flag be removed.  However, he was not sure they were with O'Rourke's campaign.  He said neither were wearing anything promoting the candidate.

An O'Rourke campaign spokesperson vehemently denied the request came from anyone associated with the campaign.

O’Rourke representative Chris Evans says the campaign has held meetings in “dozens of town halls in VFW posts across the state, and always ensured that the flags are prominently and respectfully displayed."

Evans pointed out that O'Rourke represents El Paso -- which has a large military community – and serves as a senior member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee and is vice ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee.

  1. Whether they were with the campaign or not, these are the types of people that support O’Rourke. What they don’t realize is that that flag gives them the rights and freedoms to hate that flag. Take the flag away and they’ll lose their freedom, too. Then they’ll find out that their socialist ideations are not as appealing as they think they are.
