PANTHERS’ SEASON ENDS IN REGION QUARTERFINALS

The Wildcats (29-4) got a no-hitter from pitcher Brandon Hendrix in moving on to the Region Semifinals.

Hendrix stuck out 12 and walked five.

The lone Panther (22-10) run came in the fourth inning, when Demonderick Winters walked, stole second then scored when he tried to steal third and the throw sailed into left field.  It was one of four errors committed by the Wildcats’ defense.

Big Sandy broke open a scoreless tie in the third when they erupted for three runs—all with two outs.  Hendrix’s two-out triple drove in a run, followed by a double from Brock Holmes.  Holmes scored on a double from Aaron Thompson.

The Wildcats added two runs in the fourth on a single by Holmes, who would add another 2-run single in the fifth.  Holmes finished the night 3-for-4, with five rbi.

The Panthers will return eight of their starters in 2019.  The lone loss is Bailey Deramus, who is headed to Blinn to play for the Bucs next year.

Big Sandy advances to the Region Semifinals, where they will take on Mason, who defeated Charlotte, 2-0 Friday night.
