PARTY CONVENTIONS FOR WASHINGTON COUNTY REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS

Saturday is the day for the county conventions for the Democratic and Republican parties in Washington County.

The Democrats are meeting first, at 10am at the Boys and Girls Club, next to Cubs’ Stadium.  County Party Chair George Dillingham says they will be selecting 22 delegates to go the state convention in Dallas on June 26th through the 28th.    Dillingham says they will  take up numerous resolutions including urging Congress to pass a higher minimum wage and an end to the runoff elections for the primaries.  State Democratic leaders are especially concerned about this year’s May 27th runoff because Kesha Rogers, a Lyndon LaRouche supporter garnered enough votes to get into the runoff with party favorite David Alameel.    The winner will face incumbent Republican John Cornyn in the November election.

The Washington County Republicans will meet Saturday night at the Parish Activity Center at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  County Party Chair Ron Upchurch says they too will be choosing delegates to the state convention but they will also take up resolutions concerning border security and economic development.  The keynote speaker will be State Rep. Lois Kolkhorst.   The Republicans will convene at six pm Saturday
