PERRY EARMARKS $38-MILLION FOR BORDER SECURITY

Governor Rick Perry has tapped $38 million in emergency funds to pay for the early stages of a National Guard deployment to the border.

Perry’s office says the money will be drawn from an existing but unused pot belonging to the Department of Public Safety set up for emergency radio infrastructure and is expected to fund up to the first three months of the operation.

Perry announced last week he is sending up to 1,000 National Guard troops to the border to help law enforcement, as a crush of unaccompanied Central American children cross into Texas. The plan is estimated to cost about $12 million a month.

The governor had not provided details on how to pay for the plan until Friday.

Perry, along with Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and House Speaker Joe Straus, viewed executive action as the quickest temporary solution - a move that effectively sidesteps the Legislature and could rankle some members who don't agree with the spending.

  1. Well said. It will take years if ever to repair the damage to the US that obama has created or allowed to happen. Pay attention voters!

  2. When Pres. Obama brags that he will sidestep the House of Representatives and act himself, the media treats it like a hero. When Gov Perry does the same, this story in the media states his action with wording as if it is a somehow “shady” tactic. Furthermore none of the Obama actions rankle anybody, apparently, since that is not mentioned in the same context as in this story.

Our mainstream media, reporting without the not so subtle bias, would be a great help to us readers and listeners. I’m not calling out KWHI. I don’t believe this story originated with this outlet.
