A man, already behind bars on other charges, has been identified as a person of interest in a College Station homicide investigation.

23-year old Ricardo Ramirez was arrested last week after police found him with illegal narcotics and a stolen handgun.

Thursday, College Station police said Ramirez was also considered a person of interest in the death investigation of 20-year old Ashli Stewart.

Stewart’s roommate found her dead inside their apartment in the early afternoon hours of New Year's Eve.

College Station police say they found Ramirez, nearby the apartment location, one week later on an unrelated case.

Police say inside his pickup truck they found a stolen .380 Smith and Wesson and a bag of methamphetamines.

In a news release issued Thursday, police said Ramirez was "found with property which was linked to the murder scene." Stewart was murdered on the same day the gun was reported stolen.

He was booked into the Brazos County Detention Center on multiple drug-related charges, theft of a firearm and unlawful carrying of a weapon.  He remains in the jail on bonds totaling $242,000.
