PISARO’S WALK-OFF DOUBLE LIFTS BLINN PAST SAN JACINTO, 3-2

Buccaneers defeat San Jacinto, 3-2 and 11-5, to keep perfect conference record

 

BRENHAM, Texas — Anna Pisaro’s walk-off double in the eighth inning lifted Blinn College softball (29-12, 12-0) to a 3-2 victory over San Jacinto College-South to open Friday’s doubleheader at Hohlt Park.
The Buccaneers went on to defeat San Jacinto, 11-5, in the second game of the doubleheader to keep a perfect 12-0 record in conference play.

Blinn 3 – San Jacinto 2
After a pitching duel pushed the doubleheader opener into extra innings, Pisaro’s one-run double in the eighth inning allowed the Buccaneers to defeat San Jacinto, 3-2.
Pisaro led Blinn’s offense throughout the entire game, going 3-for-4 and driving in two runs, while Amber Langston followed with one RBI and one run with a solo home run.
Meghan Morris was strong in the circle to keep Blinn in the game. She pitched all eight innings and only surrendered two runs on six hits, while striking out four.
San Jacinto scored the first run in the top of the second inning, but the Buccaneers followed with a run of their own in the bottom half. Kimber Cortemelia led off the inning with a single and later scored on a single by Pisaro to tie the game 1-1.
San Jacinto took a 2-1 lead in the third inning, but Blinn tied the game back up in the fifth inning when Langston hit a solo shot over the fence.
The game remained tied until the eighth inning. With two outs, Bailey Zibelin hit a single and Pisaro immediately followed with a double for the walk-off win.

Blinn 11 – San Jacinto 5
Blinn’s explosive offense carried the Buccaneers to an 11-5 win over San Jacinto to conclude the day with a sweep.
Cortemelia and Zibelin each drove in three runs, while Langston was perfect at the plate with four hits for two RBIs and two runs.
Alysa Torres recorded the win after pitching 4 1/3 innings and allowing just three earned runs. Ashley Richardson pitched the final 2 2/3 innings and only allowed one hit.
After San Jacinto scored the first run in the top of the first inning, the Buccaneers answered back with six runs in the bottom half. Tori Alvarez-Lopez and Amber Langston scored the first two runs after Langston and Cortemelia hit back-to-back doubles to drive in the runs. Zibelin hit Blinn’s third double for Cortemelia and Maria Garcia to score, while Courtney Ogle drove in the final two runs of the inning with a single that allowed Zibelin and Pisaro to score for Blinn to lead 6-1.
The Buccaneers added two more runs in the second inning when Sarah Cedillo scored on Cortemelia’s single and Cortemelia scored on an error.
San Jacinto scored one run in the fourth inning, but Blinn answered back with a run in the bottom half when Langston scored on a single by Cortemelia.
San Jacinto gained on Blinn 9-5 by scoring three runs in the fifth inning, but the Buccaneers scored the final two runs to stay ahead for the win. Langston hit a single for Alvarez-Lopez to score in the fifth inning, while Mayela Fernandez scored Blinn’s final run off of Zibelin’s double in the sixth inning.
Next, Blinn will travel to face San Jacinto College-South for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 9, starting at 2 p.m.
