PLANE FOUND IN WASHINGTON CO. PASTURE

No one was injured when a small plane made an emergency landing overnight in rural Washington County.

A local property owner found the abandoned airplane in his pasture off Eberhardt Rd. early this (Tuesday) morning.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene on just south of Lake Somerville.

The property owner discovered the plane when he went to the pasture to feed his cattle.

The pilot has been contacted by authorities and said he had some mechanical troubles with the plane and used the pasture to safely land the aircraft.

The FAA has been notified and is investigating the incident.

  1. This occurred across the road from my home. When I came home from work Monday I spoke with friends of the pilot who were parked at the gate of the property where the plane landed, while the pilot was inspecting the plane to see if he could safely restart it. I gave them the phone number of the property owner, and assumed that they had contacted him. Judging from this story, they did not.

Kudos to the pilot for landing the plane safely, and I’m glad he did not attempt to fly it back out of there that night.
