PRICE OF GAS REMAINS UNCHANGED

Gas prices held steady over the past week, a week away from one of the most heavily traveled holidays of the year.

The statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is $2.57.  That price is unchanged from this time last week, but it is 16 cents less per gallon compared to this day a year ago.

In Brenham, the average is three cents higher at $2.60, with a low of $2.41 and a high of $2.80.

Surveying the major metropolitan areas in Texas shows that drivers in Midland are paying the most on average at $2.74, while drivers in San Antonio are paying the least at $2.40 per gallon.

The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.85, a cent less than the price per gallon last week, and seven cents less than this time last year.

While prices have remained the same for now, market analysts note there could be several factors that push prices up soon, including a spike in demand for Memorial Day weekend travelers.
