PROPERTY PURCHASED FOR NEW BRENHAM FIRE STATION

Brenham Fire Chief Ricky Boeker

A new south-side Fire Station is in the works for Brenham.  City Council approved the purchase of 3 acres for the station at today’s (Thursday’s) meeting.  A 5 year option to purchase the property was offered by Ed Kruse when he donated the nearby Brenham Family Park land to the city.  The city issued certificates of obligation for the purchase in 2014.

The new Fire Station will be located near the proposed extensions of Chappell Hill Street and Blue Bell Road, south of the Highway 290 feeder road.  The location will allow quick access to the 290 loop or Highway 36 south.  Brenham Fire Chief Ricky Boeker said that Brenham has been in need of a second Fire Station since the 80’s and that currently, 65 percent of their calls are to the south side of Brenham.  Brenham Mayor Milton Tate reminded Boeker after the vote that he has the land now, so he can start working on plans for the new station.

Cecil Wright is honored for his 39 years of service as he retires from the Brenham Fire Department.
Carl Wiesepape is honored for his 29 years of service as he retires from the Brenham Police Department.
Freddie Garcia is honored for his 28 years of service as he retires form the Brenham Street Department.

  1. How wide will this Street be? Will this Street have a left hand turn lane? Other streets in Brenham that carry a high traffic load were inadequately planned for the traffic volume. I sure hope that the planner does not repeat this mistake again.

  2. Just asking how do the trucks get to36 south from that location. Will chappell hill go around to 36 or will go under 290 over pass and down feeder

    1. The city is planning to extend south Blue Bell Road from where it ends now in the east industrial park westward through South Chappell Hill Street all the way to 36 South.
