RETIRED WASHINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF J.W. JANKOWSKI DIES
J.W. Jankowski, who served as Washington County Sheriff for 20 years died early Sunday morning at his home.
Jankowski served as Washington County Sheriff from 1993 TO 2013. He stepped down after his last term after getting a diagnosis of cancer.
Former Washington County Judge Dorothy Morgan said she and Jankowski went back to 1991. She said “He was always professional, always a friend, a good man, a good husband and Dad.”
Salem Volunteer Fire Chief John Santos said the fire department is sending their condolences and called Jankowski ‘A good friend.”
Jankowski oversaw the opening of the new Washington County Jail, and was regularly recognized for his achievements in area law enforcement.
Jankowski was also a veteran of the U.S Army and served in the Vietnam War.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Memorial Oaks Chapel. Jankowski was 63.
I am so very sorry to hear of this. JW will be missed by many.
We will miss such a fine individual as JW. God bless his family.
Sheriff Jankowski was a great person, and a true asset to the citizens of Brenham and Washington County. He was always willing to lend a hand and help others out. He was a pleasure to work with, and a gentlemen. He welcomed my family to the County when we moved there, and made us feel at home.
I’m sure the Good Lord welcomed him home, and said “Well done, my good and faithful servant”.
J.W. was a fine, good and decent man.
He treated everyone with respect and dignity.
He left too soon for those he leaves behind but he has been called Home by a Higher Power that needs him now.
God Bless his Family and grant them strenght and comfort at this.
