SALEM VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDS TO STRUCTURE FIRE

Salem Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire this morning around 1:20am in the 8000 block of Shirttail Road. Mutual aides departments were Brenham Fire Department, Berlin Volunteer Fire Department, and Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department.

Upon arrival on the scene, Salem VFD found a large work building fully engulfed with fire and was close to the residence home. The fire was quickly extinguished saving the home. The only fatally was the family dog.

The source of the fire appears to have started from a heater in the work building.

Additional assistance with the fire came from the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Washington County EMS, Washington County 911, and Bluebonnet Electric.

Salem Fire Chief John Manor Santos says "I am glad there was no additional fatalities and also that the home was saved due to the response of all departments and agencies.  It was a great team effort. It is always hard when there is loss, but more so during the holidays."
