SALES TAX REBATES DOWN FOR JANUARY
The monthly sales tax rebates have started out on a downer for Brenham and Washington County as well as the rest of the state.
Both the city and the county saw drops in their monthly revenue payments.
Based on November sales, Brenham received $476,631 for its payment this month, down 2.3 percent from the 2015 payment of $487,689.
The payment for Washington County declined 7.3 percent to $188,803, compared to $203,729 in 1015.
The City of Burton’s payment was $2,181, an increase of 0.6 percent from January 2015’s $2,167.
The Texas Comptroller’s office sent cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts over $617-million in local sales tax allocations for January, 0.1 percent less than in January 2015.
