SALES TAX REBATES UP FOR COUNTY, DOWN FOR BRENHAM, BURTON

  

Washington County showed a sizable uptick in state sales and use tax distributions this month, but both Brenham and Burton experienced a decrease.

Washington County’s total refund was $305,211, a 24.4 percent increase above August of last year, at $245,210.  This year, Washington County has received $1,961,490, up 8.4 percent from last year’s $1,808,616 over the same period.

Brenham’s August rebate was $591,542, less than 0.6 percent below last August’s rebate, at $595,085.  For the year, Brenham has received $4,310,278, down 1.1 percent from last year’s $4,357,887.

Burton’s rebate in August totaled $8,039, nearly a 32 percent decrease from this period last year, which was $11,819.  So far this year, Burton has received $49,669, down slightly from last year’s $49,843, a 0.3 percent decrease.

Comptroller Glenn Hegar reports that local sales tax allocations for August totaled $842.7 million, up 8.2 percent from last August.
