SALES TAX REBATES UP FOR JULY

  

Washington County and the cities of Brenham and Burton showed increases in state sales and use tax distributions this month.

Washington County’s rebates increased by 2.5 percent over July of last year, at a total refund of $237,383, compared to July 2017’s rebate of $231,462.

So far in 2018, Washington County has received $1,656,279, up almost 6 percent from last year’s $1,513,405 over the same period.

Brenham’s rebate in July totaled $537,509, up 1.2 percent from last July’s $531,207.  For the year, Brenham has received $3,718,736, down 1.2 percent from last year’s $3,762,801.

Burton’s July rebate was $5,822, an 18.8 percent increase over this period last year, at $4,899.  This year, Burton has received $41,629, up 9.5 percent from $38,024 in 2017.

In area counties, Lee County’s totals through July this year are down 9.8 percent; Austin County is up 16.1 percent; Burleson County is up 24 percent; Fayette County is up 9.8 percent; and Grimes County is up 2.8 percent.

Comptroller Glenn Hegar reports that local sales tax allocations are $759 million, up 11.6 percent compared this point to last year.
