SALT GRASS TRAIL RIDE KICKING OFF THIS WEEKEND IN CAT SPRING

Trail riders from around the area will converge in Austin County this weekend for the start of the oldest trail ride in connection with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

The “official” Salt Grass Trail Ride begins this weekend at Wittenberg Pasture in Cat Spring.  Riders of all ages are stretched out single file for about a mile and wind through the countryside for roughly 103 miles, going through Bellville, Hempstead, and eventually making their way to downtown Houston for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Parade on Saturday, February 29th.

Connie Meyer, Chairman of Public Relations and Special Events for the Salt Grass Trail Ride, says this particular trail ride is the one that started it all nearly 70 years ago.

Trail riders can arrive at the Wittenberg Camphouse, at 12559 Newberg Road in Cat Spring, as early as Friday night for the Salt Grass Trail Ride Party, with music from 7 to 11 p.m. by DJ Les Evans.
