Matt Crossley leads Blinn’s offense in doubleheader with two RBIs and one run

BRENHAM, Texas — Despite strong pitching, Blinn College baseball (14-11, 7-8) dropped a pair of games to San Jacinto College-North, 3-2 and 5-1, Friday at Leroy Dreyer Field.

San Jacinto 3 – Blinn 2
Despite a strong pitching effort by Ryan Day, Blinn dropped the first game of the doubleheader to San Jacinto, 3-2.
Day threw 6 2/3 innings and surrendered just three runs on six hits, while striking out six. Henry Bird came in to pitch 2/3 innings and did not allow a hit.
Matt Crossley led Blinn’s offense with a solo home run, while Nick Wolff drove in one run and Brett Minninch scored one run.
San Jacinto opened the game with a 2-0 lead after scoring one run in each of the first and second innings.
Blinn cut San Jacinto’s lead in half in the bottom of the second inning when an error allowed Minninch on base and a double by Wolff allowed him score.
San Jacinto pulled ahead 3-1 in the top of the sixth inning. The Buccaneers fell just short of a rally, scoring their final run in the bottom of the seventh inning, off Crossley’s leadoff home run before Blinn fell.

San Jacinto 5 – Blinn 1
Although Jackson Leath provided Blinn with a strong start o n the mound, the Buccaneers’ offense couldn’t keep up with San Jacinto in a 5-1 loss to conclude the doubleheader.
Leath pitched seven innings and only surrendered four runs on five hits, while striking out seven.
On offense, Crossley recorded one RBI, while Reggie McCalister scored Blinn’s only run.
San Jacinto opened the game with a 2-0 lead in the first inning that it never surrendered.
Blinn cut San Jacinto’s lead in half with the only run it scored in the fifth inning. McCalister led off with a walk and Crossley followed with a double for him to score.
San Jacinto scored two runs in the seventh inning to pull ahead 4-1 before scoring its final run in the ninth inning.
Next, Blinn will travel to face No. 6 McLennan Community College in a non-conference game on Monday, March 25, at 2 p.m.
