SCOTT AND WHITE CHANGES TAKING AFFECT

The Brenham Scott and White announced they were downgrading from a level three to a level four, late last year. The downgrade is leading to several changes, the most notable being the absence of an on-call ER trauma surgeon.  Patients with more severe injuries will be transported to the nearest level three or two hospitals.

Washington County EMS Director Kevin Deramus says that, while that’s unfortunate there could be an upside.  Deramus says the Brazos Valley, has a number of level three and two trauma hospitals, including St. Joseph’s in Bryan.  St. Joseph’s recently upgraded to a level two trauma center.  Deramus says not to expect a big increase in the number of transported patients.

The Scott and White Hospital announced in a statement in November that the changes  were ‘multi-factorial, and reflect the changing landscapes of medicine across the community, state and nation.’

For most patients in Brenham, the care will remain the same.

  1. One more thing about Brenham that had I known before I would never have moved here. This is a lovely city in many ways, but the decision makers are ignorant.

  2. I also agree that 45 minuets makes a difference, But S & W does not really care about Brenham, As told to me they do NOT use any local services ( Vendors) they do not use local banks for payroll ETC All the money made in Brenham goes directly to Temple. Hopefully St Joes will return with a hospital in Brenham soon. The board members who allowed Trinity to Dissolve made a huge mistake.

  3. I agree with JT. What Scott & White is doing is a slap in the face to Brenham and Washington County. Why not just sell it to someone who will increase our trauma care and pay for good doctors and surgeons to move here.

I agree with “JT” we need a trauma facility to support our community. A 45 minute drive is easily the difference between life and death.

  5. Here’s the problem. No one needs these services until the emergency is there. Could a 45+ minute drive be the difference between life and death? Of course it could.

Brenham is directly between Houston and Austin on a major highway. Not unlikely an accident will occur. The speed limit is 75 mph on Hwy 290. We need this facility to support our community and to save lives.
