SECOND PUBLIC HEARING ON BLINN’S PROPOSED TAX RATE THURSDAY NIGHT

Blinn College will hold its second public hearing tonight (Thursday) on its proposed tax rate.

The proposed rate of 5.6 cents per $100 valuation drew no comments from the public at the first public hearing last week.

This new rate is higher than the effective rate of 5.28 cents per $100, but lower than last year’s rate of 6.01 cents per $100.

The rate is expected to generate $2.1 million in tax revenue to support maintenance and operations at the Brenham campus.  It equates to about $8.75 in monthly taxes on the average Washington County home, valued at $199,906.

The public hearing will be held tonight at 5:30 p.m., in the Brenham Campus Administration Building.  The board of trustees is expected to vote on the new rate at its regular monthly meeting next Tuesday, also at 5:30 p.m.
