SELECTED ASSETS OF BRENHAM WHOLESALE GROCERY CO. ACQUIRED BY GSC ENTERPRISES

Selected assets of Brenham Wholesale Grocery Company, Inc. have been acquired by a wholesale grocer headquartered in Sulphur Springs.

GSC Enterprises, Inc. announced the acquisition of Brenham Wholesale assets earlier this month.  The anticipated closing is scheduled for January 29, 2021.

Brenham Wholesale President and CEO Stephen Miller said the company is “excited about the opportunity to be part of the GSC team which will bring growth and additional jobs to Brenham.”  He said the collaboration between the two companies will “provide resources to better serve our customers and employees in the future.”

Brenham Wholesale was established as a partnership in 1905 and was later incorporated in 1909.  The company currently services and provides over 12,000 items to over 1,200 convenience stores, food service, grocery, institutional, and warehouse clients.

GSC Enterprises Chief Operating Officer Ryan McKenzie said Brenham, with over 250,000 square feet of warehouse space, will serve as a “strategic distribution point” for GSC and will provide “several operational efficiencies.”  He called the acquisition of Brenham Wholesale “a perfect fit,” saying both companies share similar values and cultures.  GSC Enterprises Board Chairman Mickey McKenzie said GSC is “excited to carry the torch forward from their rich legacy.”

GSC was founded in 1947 and has two operating companies — Grocery Supply Company and Fidelity Express — with a coverage area of over ten states.  The company last month announced the acquisition of selected assets of Long Wholesale, Inc. in Meridian, Mississippi.  Mickey McKenzie said Meridian and Brenham are “wonderful communities,” and the company is “delighted to be a part of them both.”

  1. I believe that sale went thru because they have rail service which Brenham Wholesale used very little look for a real expansion in the next few years.
