SERVICES ANNOUNCED FOR HOMELESS VETERAN WHO DIED IN BRENHAM

Funeral arrangements have been announced for a homeless Vietnam War veteran who recently passed away in Brenham.

A graveside service for Luther Walter Martin, Jr. will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Prairie Lea Cemetery.  A funeral procession will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel, making its way to the cemetery.  The Brenham Honor Guard will perform full military honors for Martin.

Martin, who served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, died from cancer Friday in Brenham, where he had been living for the past month.  He was 68 years old.

Prairie Lea Cemetery has donated a gravesite for Martin.  The Washington County Veterans Association is seeking donations to help with burial expenses.

Memorial Oaks Chapel President Clarence Gerke said donations for the cause have been “coming in steadily” to both Memorial Oaks and the Washington County Veterans Association.  He said the people of Brenham are “pouring out their hearts toward this effort”.

Anyone interested in donating can make out a check to the Washington County Veterans Association, and drop the check off at Memorial Oaks Chapel, at 1306 West Main Street in Brenham.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel.
