SHERIFF’S OFFICE: FAYETTE CO. MAN DEAD FROM SELF-INFLICTED GUNSHOT

A Fayette County man is dead after an incident Wednesday night in downtown Fayetteville.

According to Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek, the Sheriff’s Office received a call a little after 10:15 p.m. reporting an accident on the square in Fayetteville, and possibly a shot fired.

Upon the arrival of Sheriff’s deputies, they found a tan-colored pickup truck with heavy front end damage stopped on the roadway on the square.  They also found a parked Dodge pickup truck with right rear quarter panel damage.

While clearing the vehicle in the roadway, deputies located a male subject with what witnesses said was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  EMS and Fayetteville firefighters responded and attempted life support efforts.

Fayette County Precinct Two Justice of the Peace Sheila Coufal performed an inquest at the scene, and identified the subject as a 19-year-old Fayetteville man.

The occupants of the parked vehicle were treated at the scene.
