SHOOTER NAMED IN CAT SPRING SHOOTING

  

Austin County Sheriff Jack Brandes has confirmed the name of the person who shot and killed a man in at a home in Cat Spring early on New Year’s morning.

According to the original press release, a man, later identified as Austin Burger, had a confrontation with a person living in the home and was shot. The incident occurred around 4:25 am on New Year’s Day.  The sheriff’s office and Austin County EMS were called and the man was found dead at the scene.

The alleged shooter, now identified as Garen Goebel, lived in the house with him wife and child.

The sheriff is not releasing any more information, but confirms that Burger entered a home that was owned by his mother, Mandy Burger, who is currently in jail.

Brandes was asked if anyone would face charges, and Brandes says that decision will be made by District Attorney Travis Koehn.

Funeral services were held yesterday at Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville, and a memorial fund has been set up at Industry State Bank in New Ulm to help pay for the funeral expense .
