SNOOK TREES GET A REPRIEVE
Regina McCurdy has some Live Oak trees on her property in Snook that are estimated to be 200 to 300 years old but they are in the path of a major highway 60 expansion planned by the Texas Department of Transportation.
When McCurdy learned this she decided to fight for her trees. A petition was circulated and some 50,000 signatures later, TxDot is ready to negotiate.
They are expected to have several discussions with McCurdy on how to build the highway 60 expansion without destroying the old trees.
The highway department is thinking about paving a narrower median that would allow the trees to remain.
The $10.5 million project is expected to begin in a few weeks and will take nearly two years to build.

We should always try to develop our roadways around extraordinary natural landscapes and/or history. This will preserve our natural landscapes and history for all to enjoy.
Way to go Ms. McCurdy! Someone’s gotta fight for our historical trees and land!
