SOMERVILLE DAYCARE CLOSES DOWN AFTER ABUSE ALLEGATIONS

A Somerville Day Care Center that had been in operation for more than 50 years has closed down without warning.

The caregiver of the daycare at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, seventy-seven year old Sister John, has left after allegations that the nun had physically mistreated students, with the allegation going back several generations.

Abuse allegations investigations are being conducted by the Diocese of Austin, and has not yet made a determination on the validity of the accusations.

According to Deacon Ron Walker, the decision to shut down the daycare was made by the Oblate Sisters in the convent, citing concerns over the operation of the building, and will remain in place.

The last class to graduate from the building was in May.

  1. All who know Sister John wouldn’t believe these allegations. I agree Sister expected respect from these children but abuse them is totally out of the question. The persons making these allegations need to do some soul searching and maybe pray. To the one making these allegations- why are you trying to ruin Sister’s life? Wish we had more like Sister John in our schools. Then maybe we wouldn’t have the crime and the disrespect from our children/adults. Love you Sister John.

Translation: Sounds like Sister John was strict and demanded respect and excellence from her students. I bet she also demanded that the students were well mannered. Too bad there are not more teachers like Sister John. If there were, maybe our prisons wouldn’t be so full.

  3. Sister John has always been a true servant doing God’s work with no thought for herself. Unfortunately, she is gifted as a strong woman of faith in a male dominated church. I hope those in the community who are close to this situation and know the truth will rally to defend her.

  4. I am so sad to read this. I have known and worked with Sister John for many years and she would NEVER knowingly hurt anyone- either physically or emotionally!!! Why were there no complaints in prior years? Seems a little fishy to me! Sister John has been God’s faithful servant for many years and it hurts my heart to see her treated in this manner!

  5. Sister John was a very hard worker. She loved her children and taught them well. I think God is just asking her to retire so she can rest and enjoy herself. I bet all the children that she cared for are productive citizens. Yes, she had very high expectations and she made sure her students knew that. Children need discipline and I am sure that Sister John would never hurt one of her children. Discipline, yes. I bet her students are very appreciate of her care. If the allegations went back several generations, somebody should have complained earlier. It certainly would have saved Sister John a lot of work.
