Spivey, who is playing for the Class A Short Season Spokane Indians, was named the Northwest League’s Offensive Player of the Week.

Spivey hit .538 last week, with a .600 on-base average in six games.  Spivey had 14 hits in 26 at bats, with two doubles, a triple, seven runs scored and five runs batted in.

Spivey leads the Northwest League with an overall .402 batting average and is second with a .471 OBP, while Spokane owns the league’s top record at 22-8.

Spivey was drafted in the 10th round of the MLB First-Year Players Draft in June.  He is one of four members of the 2010 Cubs’ State Championship team that have been drafted into profession baseball.

This year, Drake Roberts was selected by the Cleveland Indians and Chase Wellbrock by the Toronto Blue Jays.  Last year Erich Weiss was taken by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Spivey is the son of Marty and Sheila Spivey.  His sister Alli is a standout outfielder for the Blinn Buccaneer softball team.
