STATE SALES TAX HOLIDAY THIS WEEKEND

Last-minute school shoppers can take comfort in this weekend’s state sales tax holiday.

The sales tax holiday is scheduled for this Friday through Sunday, and exempts most school supplies, backpacks, clothing and footwear from sales taxes, as long as the items are priced under $100.  This can save shoppers an average of about $8 on every $100 they spend.

According to Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar, shoppers are expected to save over $90 million in state and local taxes during the holiday this year.  Texas’ tax holiday weekend began in 1999.

Lists of eligible tax-free items can be found on the Comptroller’s website, on https://comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/.
