STATE SALES TAXES UP IN JUNE

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar said Tuesday that state sales tax revenue totaled $2.77 billion in June, more than 13 percent than June of last year.

According to Hegar, revenue increased for nearly every economic sector, saying the growth was led by collections from the mining and manufacturing sectors.  He also said the construction, wholesale and retail trade sectors also saw improvement.

Total sales tax revenue for the three months, ending in June 2018, was up over 12 percent compared to the same period last year.  Sales tax revenue accounts for 58 percent of all tax collection, and is the largest source of funding for the state budget.

Revenue from taxes on motor vehicle sales and rentals, motor fuel and oil, and natural gas production also rose last month.  Oil and natural gas taxes were up almost 70 percent from June of last year, at $456 million.  Motor vehicle sales and rental taxes, as well as motor fuel taxes, were up over four percent, at $433 million and $325.4 million, respectively.
