Cates received the designation of Certified Economic Developer (CEcD), a national recognition indicating a mastery of skills in economic development, professional attainment, and a commitment to personal and professional growth.

Cates received the designation after taking the CEcD exam in Indianapolis in October.  The exam, which has three parts and spans two days, challenges the test-taker’s knowledge and proficiency in several key areas of economic development, including business retention and expansion, marketing and attraction, strategic planning, and workforce development strategies.

The CEcD designation recognizes qualified and dedicated practitioners in the economic development field and sets the standard of excellence within the profession.  There are currently only 1,100 active CEcDs.

With nine years of economic development experience, Cates has managed projects with capital investments totaling over $66 million, with over 426 jobs created or retained in the communities she has served.
