SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER MULTI-COUNTY CHASE CHARGED WITH MURDER, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

  

New information has been released on the arrest of a Colorado County man suspected of murder, following a chase through several counties.

Sunday night, shortly before 8:15 p.m., Colorado County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 200 block of 10th Street in Glidden, located two miles west of Columbus, in reference to a stabbing and subsequent homicide investigation.

According to Colorado County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Troy Neisner, the suspect had fled the scene on foot, later stealing a vehicle from across a pasture near I-10. The suspect fled in the vehicle on I-10 West.

According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect’s vehicle was then seen on Highway 90 in Flatonia, fleeing after deputies attempted a traffic stop. Fayette County Deputies pursued the vehicle into Lavaca County, where it drove through a fence on County Road 257 near Moulton, and the suspect fled on foot.

During the foot pursuit, the suspect failed to comply with orders, and threatened deputies that he was carrying a weapon. After a lengthy foot pursuit, the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Steven Allen Moyer of Glidden, was taken into custody after being tased.

Moyer was taken by Fayette County EMS to the Columbus Community Hospital, and was later released. He was arrested at the time for an outstanding Parole Warrant.  Assisting in the arrest were Flatonia, Schulenburg, and Shiner police, along with the Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office.

Wednesday afternoon, Moyer was charged with first-degree Murder and second-degree Aggravated Assault, in connection to the death of 53-year-old Richard Posinski of Glidden.

Moyer remains in custody on $850,000 bond. According to Lt. Neisner, a motive for the murder has not been released, pending the results of a medical examiner’s report.
