SUSPECT IDENTIFIED IN 2019 FAYETTE CO. HIT-AND-RUN DEATH

The Department of Public Safety has identified a suspect in the 2019 hit-and-run that killed a 24-year old man in Fayette County.  Byler Lehmann of LaGrange was killed in April of last year while he was driving a 2017 Ford Mustang near Warda.  An arrest warrant has been issued for 41-year old Ulises Arzate Gudino of Mexico.

DPS Sgt. Jeremy Weiser said Gudino was the driver of a truck that Lehmann struck early on morning of April 4th, 2019.  The wreck occurred as both vehicles were heading south on US Highway 77 near the Warda Post Office.  The Mustang crashed into the left side of the trailer, causing major damage to its roof, and it ended up in the parking lot of the Warda Post Office.  The DPS report says Lehmann had a blood alcohol level of .126, well above the legal limit of .08.

A Fayette County Deputy unknowingly passed by Gudino's leased truck responding to the accident.  It was a blurry image from his dashcam that when digitally enhanced, led investigators to Gudino.  The image showed that it was a Penske lease truck, and GPS records show it was Gudino at the wheel.

Dashcam image that was digitally enhanced to show that the truck was a Penske rental.

The report goes on to say that Gudino fled the scene and is currently in his native Mexico.

Gudino is believed to be working for a trucking company in Mexico and authorities say he will be arrested if he ever tries to enter the United States at a border crossing.

Anyone with information on Gudino’s location is asked to contact DPS Sgt. Jeremy Weiser at the DPS Office in Giddings by calling (979) 542-1726.
