T.E.A. PROPOSES REVOKING SNOOK ISD ACCREDITATION

The TEA is proposing the accreditation be revoked for the Snook ISD.

If revoked, the Snook ISD could be required to consolidate with other districts by July of next year (2016) – a move that would essentially close down the district.

Snook Superintendent Brenda Krchnak says district officials are awaiting the final ruling of the state Education Commissioner after an informal review that was held October 22nd in Austin.

The Texas Education Association had previously placed the Snook district on an accredited-probation status.

The “revoked” status would mean that the TEA would no longer recognize Snook as a Texas public school.  A district must be accredited by the state to operate as a public school.

The TEA says its proposal is based on poor academic ratings for four-consecutive years; from 2011-to-2015.

Krchak says she’s “optimistic the district and the commissioner will be able to come to an agreement to delay, and ultimately reverse, the closure of the district.”
