TCL BASEBALL PROPOSES TEAM IN BRENHAM

Brenham could be getting a summer collegiate baseball team.

The Brenham City Council will hear a presentation today from Uri Geva, the owner and founder of the Brazos Valley Bombers Baseball Team.

Geva is proposing that Brenham host a franchise in the Texas Collegiate League at Fireman’s Park for the 2016 summer season, which would include about 30 home games.

The league currently has six teams, in Bryan, Kilgore, Victoria, The Wooldands, McKinney and Acadiana, Louisiana.

According to Geva, the games would take place at night during the off season and the BISD and other tournaments should not be affected.

Mr. Geva is requesting the ability to market and advertise with signage at the stadium. In addition, he would like to operate both beer and concession sales during his organization’s games.

Geva says he would approach Blinn College about using Leroy Dreyer Field if Firemen’s Park is unavailable.

The City Council meets at 1:00 today at City Hall.
