TEXAS LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN TO MAKE STOP IN BRENHAM

The Gulf Coast leg of the Texas Law Enforcement Torch Run will be coming through Bryan/College Station on Wednesday, and then make their way  through the Brenham area. .

The group of Law Enforcement Officers hopes to raise awareness for the Special Olympics program.   They will arrive in College Station at the Texas Roadhouse restaurant around 3:00p.m.

Our area Law Enforcement Officers will be there to donate a check to the Special Olympics.  The donation is money raised during the Special Olympics Tip-a-Cop held at Texas Roadhouse. This year we will present a check for $12,230.41.  All Law Enforcement personnel are welcome to join in the run.

At approximately 3:30p.m., the group will run from the Texas Roadhouse parking lot, at 1601 University Drive, to Tarrow Street East.  The group will turn right on Tarrow Street East and run to Spring Loop.  They will then take a right on Spring Loop and run back to University Dr.  The group will turn back on University Dr. and run back to the Texas Roadhouse.  The group that is running the entire route will leave for Brenham from The Texas Roadhouse at approximately 4:15pm.

On Thursday, the group will run in Brenham, Conroe, and Huntsville.  On Friday, they will head toward their final destination, The University of Texas at Arlington, where they will be joined by other groups from around the state.  The University of Texas at Arlington campus is the site of the Special Olympics State Summer Games, which will start on Friday, May 22, 2015.

In Texas, the Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1985.  At its most basic level, the Torch Run is a running event where officers and athletes run the Special Olympics “Flame of Hope” to the opening ceremonies of competitions.  Special Olympics Texas is a privately funded non-profit organization, providing year-round sports training and athletic competition to over 40,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in the Lone Star State.  For more information about Special Olympics Texas and/or the Law Enforcement Torch Run, visit www.sotx.org or call 1-800-876-JOIN (5646).
