TEXAS SENATE SCHEDULES EBOLA HEARING

The Texas Senate has scheduled a hearing on the state's response and readiness in handling infectious disease.

The hearing comes after the first confirmed case of Ebola in the United States was found in Dallas.

Senate Health and Human Services Committee Chairman Charles Schwertner has scheduled the hearing for next Tuesday at the Texas Capitol in Austin.

Schwertner says lawmakers want an overview of the local, state and federal response to handling Ebola and preventing it from spreading.

Schwertner says lawmakers want to hear if they need to make legal changes to how the state responds in a health crisis.

The committee is expected to hear from state health officials as well as infectious disease specialist from the University of Texas and Texas A&M.
