THE ELVIS THING COMING TO HOHLT PARK FRIDAY

Elvis senior day
Kenneth Vandever as Elvis

The ‘Elvis Thing’ is coming to Hohlt Park Friday night when Kenneth Vandever brings his show to the amphitheater for a show.

Vandever, is a registered Respiratory Therapist and the manager of the Respiratory Care Department at the Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Brenham.  He is perhaps best known, however,  for his Elvis routine.  Vandever has been imitating the legendary performer for 22 years now and when he saw the amphitheater go up in Hohlt Park three years ago, thanks to his old friend, Dr. Wilfred Dietrich, he hoped to perform there.

Vandever’s Elvis began about 22 years ago, when his employer suggested he go to the Brenham Elementary School and ‘sing some songs’ and to tell children not to smoke.  Since then, Vandever says, on the first day of school he gets calls from the Brenham school district to come and perform with his anti-smoking message.

Friday night’s show is from 7 to 9pm, at the Hohlt Park amphitheater.  There is no admission charge.
