Three Blinn College women’s soccer players signed letters of intent to continue their academic and playing careers with four-year universities.

Alyssa Correa signed with Presentation College and Janay Wilson and Yadira Grimaldo signed with Bacone College.

“These sophomores were the pioneers of our program and they are leaving a wonderful legacy for us now,” Blinn head coach Michael McBride said. “We are proud of this really special group. We are pleased that they are moving on to the next level and the schools that they are attending are very fortunate to have them.”

Correa, Wilson, and Grimaldo all played for the Buccaneers for two seasons and were part of their inaugural season.

“They are great examples of the student-athletes that we want in our program both on and off the field,” Blinn assistant coach Alexandria Jackson said. “They have set the standard because we want our players to move on to four-year schools, earn their four-year degrees, and have successful careers.”

Correa, a sophomore midfielder, played in 32 games and started in 21 during her two-year career at Blinn College. As a freshman, she earned honorable mention all-region accolades.  This year, she started in five games for Blinn and recorded one assist.

“I am really excited to be moving on to the next level,” Correa said. “I worked really hard at Blinn and enjoyed my time here playing soccer and making friends that will last a lifetime.”

Wilson, a sophomore forward, totaled 26 games and 17 starts during her two-year career with the Buccaneers. She tallied one goal and two assists in 14 games this year.

“I am really excited to carry on this chapter of my life and continue playing, but I am going to miss Blinn,” Wilson said. “I loved the atmosphere, getting to know the coaches, and growing with my teammates. It was amazing playing at Blinn in the first two seasons of the women’s soccer program.”

Grimaldo, a sophomore midfielder, has been a part of the women’s soccer program since its inaugural season. This year she played in three games for the Buccaneers.

“I am really excited and grateful to be in the position I am in today,” Grimaldo said. “I have had two great years here at Blinn, where I have learned a lot from the coaches and built a lot of friendships. Blinn is a really special place to play soccer and the coaches gave an opportunity that helped me get to where I am today.”

Blinn finished the season with a 6-9-1 overall record and 4-7-1 conference record. The team also was honored with a 2019 College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award from the United Soccer Coaches Association for exhibiting fair play, sporting behavior, and adherence to the laws of the game.
