TWO AREA STUDENTS TO REPRESENT BLUBEONNET COOPERATIVE IN WASHINGTON D.C.
Two area high school students will represent Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative during a tour of Washington, D.C., and a visit to the U.S. Capitol to meet members of Congress. Isabella Stasulli, a Bastrop High School senior, and Olivia Weiss, a Brenham High School junior, will join more than 1,500 students from across the country, about 125 from Texas, for the Government-in-Action Youth Tour, which is sponsored by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
“The government youth tour is a great program that was inspired by Lyndon Johnson and dates back to 1958,” said Mark Rose, Bluebonnet’s general manager. “This wonderful trip will provide Isabella and Olivia the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C., to see the wealth of history in our nation’s capital, meet our area’s legislators and experience firsthand the legislative process in action.”
This year’s Government-in-Action Youth Tour will be June 10-19. Joel Benoit, a junior who is home schooled in Cedar Creek, was chosen as an alternate if either Stasulli or Weiss is unable to make the trip.
To be eligible for the Government-in-Action Youth Tour, students must be in grades 10, 11 or 12 and live in the home of a parent or legal guardian who is a Bluebonnet member with an active account.
Stasulli and Weiss will also receive a $500 scholarship and join an alumni base of more than 50,000 - an impressive group that boasts CEOs and U.S. senators.
