TXDOT NAMES LANCE SIMMONS BRYAN DISTRICT ENGINEER

Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced that Lance W. Simmons will serve as the new Bryan District Engineer effective March 1, 2015.

Simmons is currently the Director of Operations in the Atlanta District, and he replaces Catherine Hejl who recently retired after serving more than five years as District Engineer.

Simmons is licensed as a professional engineer and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M.  He was a Terry Scholar at Texas A&M University.  He has worked for TxDOT’s Atlanta District since 1994.  In 2014, Simmons was honored with the 2014 Luther DeBerry Award at the Transportation Short Course.

“Lance Simmons is the right person for the job,” said Randy Hopmann, TxDOT’s Director of Urban and Rural Operations.  “Lance understands the transportation challenges facing the Brazos Valley, and he brings more than twenty years of hard work and experience to this position.”

TxDOT Bryan District plans, designs, builds, operates and maintains the state transportation system in the following counties: Brazos, Burleson, Freestone, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Milam, Robertson, Walker and Washington.

“This is an exciting, demanding time to work in transportation,” said Simmons.  “It’s a tremendous honor to lead the dedicated professionals working across the Bryan District.”  While Simmons said Hejl, his predecessor, would be missed, he is ready to hit the ground running.  “My family and I are excited to be back in Aggieland.  I’m ready to go to work.”
