TXDOT PLANNING AN OVERPASS TO MAKE A GRIMES COUNTY INTERSECTION SAFER

The Texas Department of Transportation is planning a major  safety improvement at a Grimes County intersection after a number of serious and deadly accidents over the past several years. Ed Pothul has this report.

The  intersection is at highway 30 and FM 244 near Carlos.  TxDot actually consider the intersection dangerous, but there are records of several fatalities at the intersection.

Since 2009, TxDot said there have been nine serious accidents at this intersection and now, it’s become part of the state’s safety project.

Bob Colwell of the Bryan office of TxDot said the Department’s top priority is safety , so if there is anything they can do to improve the roadways they are going to do it.

He said TxDot will build an overpass that will carry FM 244  over highway 30 so the traffic never meets.

Construction is not set to start for a year and until this time, drivers are expected to observe caution.  TxDot estimates it will take about two years to complete the $8 million overpass project.

  1. And yet they are removing an existing overpass at the Hwy 36 North / Hwy 36 Business interchange to put a stop light there (it worked so well at Hwy 30 / Hwy 244). What’s wrong with this picture???
