TXDOT WARNS ABOUT DISTRACTED DRIVING

  

The Texas Department of Transportation says distracted driving  continues to rise but they are urging  motorist too put away their mobile devices and other distractions and drive safely.  Ed Pothul has this report.

TxDot says April is National Distracted Driver Awareness month and they are kicking off their campaign, ‘Talk, Text, Crash’.

TxDOT  Executive Director John Barton says the statistics in Texas are sobering.  He says one in five traffic crashes in Texas is caused by a distracted driver, and last year 459 people were killed as a result.  Those deaths were preventable.

Distracted driving related crashes and fatalities in Texas highest among young adults and adults over the age of fifty-five.

TxDot  considers the use of cell phones, checking email, eating and drinking, grooming, reading, and programming a navigation stem, as distracted driving.
