VEHICLE DESTROYED BY FIRE IN CRASH NEAR LAKE SOMERVILLE

An auto accident Monday morning in Somerville left a vehicle destroyed by fire.

According to DPS Trooper Jimmy Morgan, a 2007 Mercedes was headed south on Park Road 57 near Lake Somerville around 11 a.m., when it crossed into the oncoming lane.  The vehicle then drove into a ditch and hit a tree, where the car would eventually become engulfed in flames.

The driver, 19-year-old Cordell Fisher of Ledbetter, escaped the vehicle and was taken to CHI St. Joseph Hospital in Caldwell by a friend.  The extent of the driver’s injuries are yet to be determined.

Birch Creek Volunteer Fire Department was called upon to extinguish the fire.  The cause of the crash and fire is still under investigation.
