WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS APPROVE SOFTWARE UPGRADES

Washington County Commissioners approved new software for the county’s Environmental Health Department at their meeting today (Tuesday).

Commissioners voted to allow the department to purchase Dude Solutions SmartGov software to replace its current primary software program.  According to Environmental Health Director Mark Marzahn, the software being replaced is 11 years old.

Marzahn said the new software will help the county’s permitting, code enforcement, business licensing, inspection, and plan review processes run more efficiently.  As the software is cloud-based, he said it will allow for unlimited storage space, and can also connect to the Geographic Information System (GIS) database.

Information Technology Director T.J. Harris said the software is compatible with what is currently being used by the Engineering and Development Services Department, so once it is set up, constituents could be allowed to view information for both the Environmental Health Department and Engineering and Development Services Department using the same software.

The county also approved a resolution authorizing the filing of a regional solid waste grant application with the Brazos Valley Council of Governments (BVCOG).  Marzahn said the grant funding available is being “whittled down” to the point where there is now only $24,000 available for seven counties, but he is still holding out optimism that the county will receive a grant.

Commissioners also:

  • Approved a joint election agreement for November 3rd with Burton ISD for its school board election.
  • Heard monthly reports from several county departments.
