WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO CONSIDER ROAD SERVICE AGREEMENT WITH BURTON

Washington County Commissioners will look to approve an inter-local agreement with the City of Burton for road maintenance when they meet Tuesday morning.

The agreement between the county and Burton outlines road maintenance services to South Brazos Street.

County Judge John Brieden says, since Burton does not have a public works department, the city contracts with the county to perform work on city roads.  He says this is a restatement of the agreement, with some new language.

The county will also consider renewal of a memorandum with the Brazos Valley Council of Governments and its Transportation Partnership Program. Brieden says the county receives grants through the Council of Governments, to help the Washington County Senior Center with transportation needs.

Commissioners will also act upon requests for the hiring and promotion of several positions.

District Attorney Julie Renken is requesting to hire a new investigator and assistant district attorney, while Sheriff Otto Hanak is requesting that a deputy be promoted to a sergeant. The court will also discuss the approval of a part-time clerk.

In addition, commissioners could restructure salaries and wage rates for assistant district attorneys and part-time clerks. Brieden says their total salaries will remain the same.

Commissioners will also look over a series of monthly reports, and proclaim Thursday, October 25th as “Think Pink Thursday” in Washington County, in support of breast cancer awareness.

The court will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m., at the Washington County Courthouse.
