WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING FOR PROPOSED BUDGET

Washington County Commissioners will invite the public Tuesday to offer comment on the county’s proposed budget.

Tuesday’s meeting will begin with a public hearing and potential adoption of the 2019-20 budget, which projects revenues at $31.1 million and expenses at $30.9 million, a surplus of just under $175,000. The proposed budget’s surplus is more than double the current budget’s, which had just over $85,000 in surplus.

The county expects the proposed budget to raise an additional $2 million in tax revenue compared to last year’s budget—an 11.9 percent increase—due to higher property values.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the court will take a record vote to levy the proposed property tax rate of 49.5 cents per $100.

Commissioners will also consider:

  • An agreement between Washington County Emergency Communications and Blinn College to provide emergency communication dispatching for Blinn.
  • Approving the transfer of assets to Burleson County, which started operating its own district attorney’s office on September 1st.
  • Purchase of a new fleet vehicle for the Washington County Appraisal District.
  • Approval of a flat rate/fixed fee contract for service between the county and Allison, Bass and Magee, LLP for the commissioners court precinct redistricting.
  • Approval of a pay application to Collier Construction for the Road and Bridge Facility.
  • Formal notice from AMP for a road bore with a 12-inch natural gas pipeline for Oilfield Road in Precinct Two.
  • Approval of the required Texas Ambulance Supplemental Payment Program charity policy.
  • Approval of the 2020 Sheriff and Constable’s fees for the county.
  • Hearing and approval of several monthly reports.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday morning at 9 a.m., at the Washington County Courthouse.
