WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO JOIN CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST COPSYNC

Washington County Commissioners have decided to join a class action lawsuit against COPsync.

At today’s (Tuesday) meeting, County Attorney Renee Miller said Washington County’s unsecured claim totaled $106,000, but she expects the lawsuit could only get 30 percent of the claim back.

Commissioners determined it would be much cheaper to join into the class action lawsuit, rather than pursue independent legal action.  Commissioner Kirk Hanath said it was a bad situation regardless, saying “Either way, we’re out of money.”

COPsync is a Texas-based computer software company that, upon going bankrupt in October, stopped supporting camera software that commissioners had purchased.  Commissioners were forced to obtain their own cameras, and lost what they paid for the original software.

During the IT Department’s report, plans were revealed to install security cameras inside several offices around the building.  The proposal still needs approval from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, but the department plans to get started on the project sometime this week.

Commissioners also heard the Washington County 911, Sheriff’s Office, and Veterans Service Officer monthly reports.  They also approved bonds for a reserved deputy sheriff and a road and bridge engineer.
